Men's Soccer Posts Dominant Effort in Rivalry Win over BW

BEREA, Ohio -- On a cold, windy night at Finnie Stadium, the John Carroll University Men's Soccer team left nothing to chance.

The Blue Streaks played a perfect, complete game, besting Baldwin Wallace University, 1-0. Brenden Swann provided the game-winning goal in the 44th minute.

The score does not tell the full tale of the dominant win for John Carroll. The Blue Streaks not only held the Yellow Jackets scoreless, but shotless. The hosts did not muster one shot, as John Carroll notched all of the game's 16 shots and 7 shots on target.

Throughout the game, the Blue Streaks played a suffocating, possession-based game that didn't allow Baldwin Wallace to gain any traction on offense.

In the first stanza, the Blue Streaks threatened to push through. Baldwin Wallace goalkeeper JT Brenneman turned away some promising JCU chances in the opening half. In the 40th minute, John Carroll's Ian Fields was booked for a yellow card as the team tried to find the back of the net.

In the 44th minute, the Blue Streaks finally broke through. On a throw-in from the near side, the ball came to the foot of Michael Burrington. Aidan Bozak fired a shot towards the net, bouncing off a Yellow Jacket's head. On a 50/50 ball, Brenden Swann got the ball and immediately right-footed it on net. The shot from straight-on about 10 yards out found the back of the net for the 1-0 JCU lead.

The sophomore's first goal of the season turned out to be all the Blue Streaks needed.

In the second half, John Carroll continued to pressure Baldwin Wallace. The Blue Streaks enjoyed lopsided possession times, firing shot after shot at the BW net. The visitors could not find an insurance marker despite plenty of effort.

A red card on BW in the 73rd minute just about sealed the Yellow Jackets' fate. The Blue Streaks controlled possession the remainder of the contest, rarely allowing Baldwin Wallace to cross midfield.

The Blue Streaks finished with 16 shots and 7 on target to the Yellow Jackets' 0. JCU also enjoyed a nice margin on corner kicks, 12-0. Connor Robinson delivered his 4th shutout of the year.

With the win, John Carroll advances to 5-0 on the year. Baldwin Wallace drops to 2-2-2.

Marietta awaits JCU on Easter Monday, as the Pioneers will make the 2.5 hour trip up I-77 to play at Don Shula Stadium.
