Pool Records Fall in Massive Win for Men's Swimming & Diving

BEREA, Ohio -- In the second meet of the 2021 campaign, the John Carroll University Men's Swimming & Diving team not only won, but set a number of records in the process.

In a 193-39 victory, the Blue Streaks shattered Baldwin Wallace University pool records in the 200 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, and 400 IM. 

"I'm really proud of how well our men raced this afternoon," said Head Coach Tanner Barton. "We swept the top three spots in 9 of the 13 events, which truly highlights our program's speed and depth."

The divers started off the meet day in Berea with 1 Meter Diving. Jack Lausin won the event with scores of 153.60 and 251.10 in the main event and the optional diving events, respectively. Christian Litwinowicz earned third with tallies of 162.20 and 118.05. 

"Jack Lausin had a phenomenal day on the boards," Barton said. "He eclipsed 400 points for the first time in his collegiate career. It will be exciting to see how well he does as the season progresses."

The Blue Streaks started off the swimming with a win in the 400 Medley Relay. The JCU A team absolutely smoked the competition with a time of 3:31.01. The A team consists of Forrest Campbell, Jonah Venos, Liam McDonnell, and Michael Heller. The JCU B and C relay came in second and third, respectively. 

Aiden O'Neill won the 1000 Free with a time of 10:33.05. Ben Rancillio comes in second with a time of 10:46.68, and Jonathan Simoes comes in third with a time of 10:51.28. 

Westin Fishel won the Men's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:47.22. Jacob Farr, and Liam McDonnell made the race a nail biter until the end with times of 1:47.88, and 1:47.97 respectively. 

In the 400 IM, the Blue Streaks took a clean sweep of the top three with Nicholas Mudry winning it with a time of 4:16.50. Austin Davis coming in second with a time of 4:19.67, and Jacob Clark coming in third with a time of 4:30.99. 

Michael Heller took home a win for the Blue Streaks in the 50 Free, clocking in at 21.64. 

Liam McDonnell won the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 51.37. Max Campbell came in second with a time of 54.61, and Adam Lenz took third with a time of 55.07.

Forrest Campbell captured the Men's 100 Free with a time of 47.62. Jonah Venos snatched with a time of 48.16, and in third was Westin Fishel with a time of 48.93.  

River Flatley won the Men's 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.05, while Jonathan Simoes slid into second with a time of 55.53. 

Nick Mudry won his second race of the day in the 500 Free with a time of 4:57.39. Coming in second was Aidan O'Neill with a time of 4:59.23, and coming in third with a time of 5:01.22 was Benjamin Rancilio

Jonah Venos won the Men's 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:00.60. Austin Davis finished as the runner-up with a time of 1:02.94. Nick Mudry tapped in at third with a time of 1:03.63.

The Blue Streaks host two meets this upcoming weekend. Wilmington College will visit JCU on Friday, Feb. 19 and Ohio Northern will come to University Heights on Saturday, Feb. 20 for back-to-back in the William H. Johnson Natatorium.
