Women's Soccer Falls in Final Home Match to Heidelberg

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- All good things must come to an end.

Unfortunately for the John Carroll University women's soccer team, a 3-0 loss to Heidelberg ended their 14 match winning streak against the Student Princes dating back to 2008.  The defeat also eliminates the Blue Streaks from the OAC Tournament, snapping a 15 year run of making the postseason.

Heidelberg moved quickly just 34 seconds into the match on a shot from Madi Lause.  However, Blue Streak goalie Danielle DelGiudice made a diving save to thwart the attack.

The Student Princes got on the board in the 13th minute when Bekah Thomas fired a pass to Audrey Kaufman who used a powerful strike to find the back of the net, giving the Student Princes an early 1-0 lead.

After the goal, Blue Streak defense stiffened as they did not give up another shot on goal for the rest of the half.  JCU had two shots on goal after giving up the score despite being outshot 5-4 by Heidelberg in the period.

The visitors then started to put more pressure on John Carroll.  Just three minutes into the second half, Kaufman struck again and gave the Student Princes a 2-0 advantage.

JCU responded with five unanswered shots over the course of 15 minutes, with two on goal. Three of the shots were taken by midfielder Grace Monnin.

As time was dwindling down, the Blue Streaks went for an aggressive push in an attempt to cut the lead in half.  As a result of being too aggressive, Thomas found an opening and scored with ten seconds left on an open net to put the icing on the cake.

For the match, JCU outshot Heidelberg 13-12 and on goal 7-6.

DelGiudice finished with three saves for the Blue Streaks while Meredith Bruce made seven and kept the slate clean for the Student Princes.

The Blue Streaks will travel to Wilmington on Saturday, October 30 for their final match of the season with kickoff at 1pm.  Heidelberg will host Muskingum on the same day at the same time.  If the Student Princes win, they will clinch a spot in the OAC Tournament for the first time since 2009.
