Women's Soccer Can't Keep Pace with Cardinals in Home Defeat

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The John Carroll University Women's Soccer team was no match for the red-hot Otterbein Cardinals.

The Blue Streaks headed into Wednesday's matchup with a 6-6-1 record, while the Cardinals carried a 9-game win-streak heading into the contest.

Inside of Don Shula Stadium, the Cardinals stretched the streak to 10 with a 4-0 conqest of John Carroll.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick lead at nine minutes with a goal from junior midfielder Grace Weidenhamer. Shortly after, the Cardinals added to their advantage with a goal at 11' by senior forward Delaney Earl.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle DelGiudice finished the first half with three saves, while senior midfielder Kennedy Newheart had a shot on goal in the 23rd minute. The Blue Streaks would head into half trailing, 2-0.

The second half led off with a back-and-forth match between the two teams. The stalemate would continue until 59' when Early would score her second goal of the match, putting the Cardinals up by three.

Unfortunately for the Blue Streaks, the Cardinals would again pick up a quick goal, this time by sophomore forward Morgan Somers in the 69th minute.

DelGuidice finished with six saves on the night, while graduate student Madison Zimmerman finished with a low shot on goal in the 79th minute.

In the 87th minute, the Blue Streaks were given a free kick at the top of Otterbein's box after a foul committed by Otterbein midfielder Mackenzie Peeke. However, JCU was unable to capitalize on this opportunity, as freshman defender Jennifer Crowley's shot would miss over the crossbar.

Despite multiple attempts, the Blue Streaks failed to find the back of the net, resulting in a 4-0 shutout.

John Carroll will take on Ohio Northern in another OAC matchup this Saturday, October 16 in Ada.
