13 seconds.
That was all the time that stood between the Blue Streaks and a 3-0 start for the first time in program history.
But that was when the tough breaks began for the John Carroll women's soccer team Saturday night in Oberlin. Holding on to a 2-1 lead, JCU was called for a foul in the box, leading to a penalty kick which the host Yeowomen converted.
Then, in the second overtime, Oberlin came through again with the game winner in the 106th minute for a stunning 3-2 victory.
John Carroll dominated the match in almost every category yet dropped its first contest of the 2019 campaign. The Blue Streaks won the shots battle by a whopping 28-12 advantage, and had seven corners to Oberlin's one.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening 45 minutes, but it didn't take John Carroll long to jump start the scoring in the second half. Sophomore
Brittany Dufalla broke the ice off a
Sydney Scello assist to put JCU ahead 1-0. Less than six minutes later it was
Hannah Brinning who finished off a pass from
Jaclyn Audino to make it a 2-0 JCU advantage.
Oberlin scored in the 66th minute to cut the John Carroll lead to 2-1, where the score remained until the fateful PK.
