It was a night where all 25 Blue Streaks in uniform got a chance to contribute to a history making victory.
On Thursday at Don Shula Stadium, the John Carroll men's lacrosse team won its third consecutive game by posting the first shutout in program history, blanking the fledgling Marietta Pioneers, 24-0.
On three occasions since the program began in 2014, John Carroll has held an opponent to just one goal - Bethany in 2014 and both Mount Union and Heidelberg in 2017.
Marietta is in its first year as a varsity program and has won four games, and had scored at least four goals in each of its first 13 games.
JCU built a quick 6-0 lead after one quarter and the advantage grew to nine after two.
In the third quarter, eight different Blue Streaks found the back of the net as part of an 11-goal explosion, upping the lead to 20-0. The fourth quarter saw four more John Carroll shots find a target.
Skyler Blake led the parade with six goals, while
Kevin Hack and
Alan Adams has three apiece.
Jared Gorenflo,
Ian Flynn,
Cam Gerard and
Cole Jaskiewicz all scored twice, while
Colin Corcoran, Matthew Fete,
Colin May and
Josh Plarr all tallied a single goal.
Blake (3), Gorenflo (3), Hack (3), Flynn (2) and
Clayton Karam (2) all had multiple assists this evening.
Karam had 19 more ground balls to become the program's all-time leader in that category as a sophomore. His 247 surpasses the total of 241, set by
Kyle Patterson from 2014-17.
Jacob Betz and JP Cinelly each had three saves to preserve the shutout.
John Carroll is now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the OAC. Marietta slips to 4-10 and 0-7 in league play.
