A year ago, Mount Union threw an incredible scare into John Carroll's bid for a fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference crown by winning all three doubles matches in the 2018 league title match in Cincinnati.
Today in Alliance, John Carroll answered the opening bell and took control early en route to an 8-1 victory over the Purple Raiders.
The win marks John Carroll's 32nd consecutive OAC regular season triumph, dating back to April 15, 2015.
The doubles matches were for the most part tight, especially the number one match.
Andy Siciliano and
David Sinense dug deep to outlast Robert Cross and Zach Teffner, 9-7. The number two duo of
Gustavo Garcia and
Andrew Triner also were pushed before prevailing 8-6 over Justin Kelley and Antonio Massucci. Only
Adi Jha and
Parker Holyn had a relatively easy time, dispatching their opponents by an 8-1 count in the number three match.
Owning a 3-0 lead, the Blue Streaks would cruise in singles play. Outside of a straight set win by Cross over Sinense in the #1 match, the other five Blue Streaks won in straight sets: Siciliano at #2, Garcia at #3, Jha at #4, Triber at #5 and
Doug Moore at #6.
John Carroll improves to 3-9 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the league schedule.
