Big Red Stays Red Hot As Blue Streaks Dealt First Loss In Ohio For 2019

John Carroll faced off against Denison University today looking to keep their perfect record in the state of Ohio intact.

It would be a challenge because the Big Red came in with a record of 13-2, including 11-1 in the month of March where their lone loss was by a single run.

Denison was simply too hot to handle in Granville Wednesday afternoon, as a four-run sixth-inning blew open a relatively close game and the Big Red cruised to a 10-1 victory over JCU.

John Carroll couldn't get anything going to start off the game, and it was Denison who drew first blood in the bottom of the second when they knocked in the first run of the game against starter Nate Wenson.

The Blue Streaks didn't put a run on the board until the sixth inning.  Dom Mittiga drove in Patrick Keohane to score the first and only run of the day for the Blue Streaks.  At that time, the pulled JCU to within three runs at 4-1.

Denison tallied a fatal four runs in the bottom of the sixth to answer the Blue Streaks, making the score 8-1 and putting the game out of reach.  Denison scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh to push the lead to nine runs.

It ws not only John Carroll's first Ohio loss of 2019 after a 3-0 start, but also ended the Blue Streaks' four-game winning roll.

Mittiga went 2-4 with a RBI to lead the offense and Sam Heaton went 1-3 with a walk to both reach base twice in today's contest.

John Carroll falls to 13-5 while Denison improves to an outstanding 14-2 on the year.

The Blue Streaks will return to the OAC action on Saturday when they host the Fighting Quakers of Wilmington for a doubleheader at Schweickert Field starting at 1:00 p.m., weather permitting.
