Heavy scoring from the Blue & Gold in five of the opening six matches gave the Blue Streaks the points they needed to clinch the victory in Tiffin, OH over the Heidelberg Student Princes.  The Blue Streaks won the 32nd meeting between the two storied rivals, improving to an overall record of 22-10 between the two teams.

Andrew Perelka set the tone early with a Major Decision victory over Pace Quire by 11-2.  This was Perelka's 25th win of his freshman career, making him on pace for a terrific end of season run while setting the tone for his John Carroll career.

Jarrod Brezovec and Jarrad Lasko added a combined 10 points to the Blue Streak effort with two consecutive Technical Falls over their respective opponents.  Brezovec achieved his victory in less than five minutes with a 20-3 margin. In the 149 pound division, Lasko won out 15-0 in 5:09. The Blue Streak lead became 17-3 after a Daniel Novak 9-5 Decision in the 157 pound weight class over Jacob Horsch.

Nonetheless, the highlight of the night came in the 167 pound bout.  With just over 45 seconds remaining in the opening period, Seth Winkle dominated Micah Mydloski into a pin, garnering a crucial six points for the Blue Streak effort, and giving JCU a 23-3 lead.  The pin adds Winkle's career win total to 33, 18 of which have come this season. It also proved to be the sophomore's sixth pin this season.

John Carroll would not win another match for the remainder of the dual, but the avoidance of pins by all JCU wrestlers saved the victory for the Blue and Gold, prevailing over the Student Princes 23-19.  John Carroll moves to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the OAC while Heidelberg shifts out of the tie with JCU into 4th place in the conference with a 10-7 record and 3-3 standing in the OAC.

John Carroll will take to the mat this Sunday, February 10th at 11:00 AM for the JCU Open in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
