Through 108 minutes of play, John Carroll and Ohio Wesleyan were knotted in a scoreless tie in which they had an equal amount of shots.
The shot that broke the tie - and the first on goal in the match for the Battling Bishops - broke the deadlock with 1:07 left in the second overtime. Brady Whittekind knocked in a point blank shot when a throw in was not cleared, lifting the visitors to their first win in University Heights in four tries.
As the rain poured down and the field slickened, both teams displayed a stout defense. Five of JCU's shots registered on the net, none crossing the goal line.
Junior
Jared Ianiro and senior Will Turrittin each had two shots on net. Sophomore Larry Cersosimo had the other.
Senior
Jarrod McDowell had two shots but both sailed around and over the goal.
The Blue Streaks have now gone consecutive games without scoring a goal for the first time this season, and suffered their first regular season home loss since September 12, 2018.
JCU will get its first crack at Ohio Athletic Conference play on Oct. 2 in New Concord, Ohio, against Muskingum.Â
