John Carroll University traveled to Westerville, Ohio, in hopes of continuing its three-game win streak in an Ohio Athletic Conference competition against host Otterbein University, but came up short and suffered their first league loss of the season by a 3-1 score.
Â
The fate of the game rested with the relentless Cardinals attack early on. Just eight minutes into play, Otterbein's Annie Mosca found the back of the net to put the home team on the board. Shortly after, the Cardinals increased their lead to two with a goal from Priscilla Severance.
A little more than halfway through the first half, Otterbein added yet another goal to the board.Â
John Carroll goalkeeper Danielle DelDiudice recorded five saves in the first half.Â
The Blue Streaks looked to make a second half come back with a goal from
Jaclyn Audino to
Brittany Dufalla to start the half, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
Audino's assist was the 24th of her career, which broke the school record for career assists. The record of 23 was previously held by JCU Hall-of-Famer Jill Comerford.Â
John Carroll held Otterbein to zero goals throughout the second half on defense, but was unable to find the same positive momentum on offense and put fear into the Cardinals.
The Blue Streaks look to bounce back from the loss this Saturday, October 19, at home against Ohio Northern.Â
