There would not be two Ohio Athletic Conference banners hanging in Johnson Natatorium from 2017 and 2018 without the contributions of
Jack Garrow and
Tom Pacak.
Both returned to the top of the scoreboard Saturday afternoon in Berea, Ohio.
John Carroll won all 13 events in defeating Baldwin Wallace, 195-46, to improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference meets.
Results
Just as they did the night before against Wooster, the quartet of
Forrest Campbell,
Mason Beck,
Jackson Cooper and
Adam Lenz won the 200 Medley Relay to start the meet at Baldwin Wallace. Their winning time was 1:37.97.
Ben Rancilio (10:26.04), Pacak and
Eric Andrews would go out in the next race and complete a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1000 Free.
The 200 Free had a decidedly Blue & Gold flavor, as
Westin Fishel (1:49.92) and
Matthew Pietsch (1:50.82) claimed the top two spots.Â
Lenz (22.31), Garrow (22.78) and
Chris Soules (22.96) put together a sweep of top three spots in the 50 Free.
In the 200 IM,
Erik Sriubas continued his outstanding rookie campaign with a win in a time of 2:00.76. The same could be said about
Ryan McClelland, who continued his stellar junior campaign as he swept the 1-meter diving competition.
The 100 Fly featured one of the best races of the afternoon, as Cooper (52.08) and
Forrest Campbell (52.62) edged Greg Shaw (52.76) in a spirited swim.
Chris Soules (50.19) and
Westin Fishel (50.57) followed up with their own 1-2 finish in the 100 Free.
The next two events went to the "old guys". Garrow, the 2017 OAC Swimmer of the Year, picked up an individual win in the 100 Back (55.22), pairing with Lenz (55.34) to give the Blue Streaks a 1-2 punch. In the next race, Pacak - a four-time individual OAC champion - got back in the winner's circle for JCU by placing first in the 500 Free (4:57.77). Rancilio and
Max Campbell placed second and third, respectively, to give the Blue & Gold another 1-2-3 sweep.
Beck would win the 100 Breast (1:02.17), setting the stage for a 1-2 finish in the final event. In the 200 Free Relay, the "A" team of
Forrest Campbell, Garrow, Fishel and Cooper won the race in 1:28.50, while the "B" foursome of Soules,
Dane Bozsvai, Rancilio and Pacak took second in 1:32.91.
In addition to winning all 13 races, the JCU men set BW Natatorium records in the 200 Medley Relay, 100 Fly (Cooper), 200 IM (Sriubas) and the 200 Free Relay.
John Carroll returns home this Friday for its first meet at the Johnson Natatorium since October 27 when the Blue & Gold hosts Ashland University.
