The John Carroll University Blue Streaks (20-18, 8-10 OAC) hosted the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets (26-12, 11-7 OAC) at Schweickert Field for the 2018 season finale.

Seniors Steven Virost (6.0 IP, 8 hits, 4 earned runs, 1 walk, two strikeouts) and Monroe Donnelly (1-4 & 1-3) were honored before today's game, playing their final games in blue and gold.

The Yellow Jackets were hungry for more wins, as they accomplished their mission of sweeping their rivals on JCU's home turf.

Game 1 - John Carroll 2, Baldwin Wallace 8

Wild pitches were the theme of game one, as the Yellow Jackets compiled two runs scored off five total poor accuracy throws from the JCU pitching staff.

It was all Baldwin Wallace from the get-go with the scoring starting with the second hitter in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Dudley Taw hit a double off the top of the left center field wall, scoring Chase Knodle to provide BW with a 1-0 lead early on.

Junior Patrick Keohane led off the bottom of the first with a hit to right field, but that would be the only Blue Streaks hit until the fourth inning.

Baldwin Wallace diminished any opportunity of a JCU comeback with an explosive sixth inning. Jacob Bonner knocked in two runs with a single to right field, ending sophomore starting pitcher Freddy Moore's afternoon.

Moore finished the day with five innings pitched, nine hits allowed, six earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Junior Nathaniel Wenson had a rough outing early with a wild pitch with two outs, scoring Bonner. The Yellow Jackets held the 6-0 advantage at the conclusion of the inning.

Wenson's day was over two innings later, finishing the day with one hit allowed, and a strikeout after facing nine batters.

Freshman Nick D'Angelo replaced Wenson at the start of the eighth inning. D'Angelo allowed two runs in the final inning to total two earned runs, four hits, a walk, and a strikeout against the Yellow Jackets.

The Blue Streaks did their best to rally in the ninth inning, with a lead-off home run by Keohane. Sophomore Joe Charpentier added on with an RBI single to shortstop, scoring sophomore Aaron Zawadzki.

Keohane compiled three hits, one run, and an RBI in four at-bats. Zawadzki, junior Dom Mittiga, senior Monroe Donnelly, Charpentier, and junior Derek Penman all added hits in the loss.

Baldwin Wallace starting pitcher finished the day with a complete game performance, allowing eight hits, four runs, and nine strikeouts earning the win. JCU's Moore was handed the loss.

Game 2 - John Carroll 6, Baldwin Wallace 4

The second game of the twin bill began with a similar start as the first.

The Yellow Jackets stung in the top of the second inning, with a three run affair. Senior Trent Kaltenbach blasted a double into center field, scoring two runners. Senior Chase Knodle followed his lead with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kaltenbach to give BW the 3-0 nod.

JCU was held hitless until the fourth inning until Penman had a two-out double to left field scoring Mittiga, ending BW picther junior Danny Cody's no-hit bid. The Blue and Gold cut the lead to 3-1.

In the top of the seventh, Knodle hit an RBI double to center field regaining a three run lead for the Yellow Jackets, ending Virost's day.

The senior pitcher from Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School received a standing ovation at the completion of his final collegiate start. Virost's allowed eight hits, four earned runs, a walk, and struck out two batters in his last outing.

BW continued their scoring, with two more additional runs to gain control of a 6-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Charpentier had a sacrifice fly in the same inning, scoring Penman and cutting the lead down to 6-2.

The Blue and Gold had an explosive eighth inning with a two-run, two-out rally. Zawadzki came around to score off of an RBI single from Mittiga. Penman continued the short scoring run with an RBI single to right field to minimize the deficit to two runs.

Cody's day was over after eight innings pitched, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, a walk, and seven strikeouts.

Sophomore Cameron Mayle replaced Virost in the sixth inning and went on to contribute two and one third innings for the Blue and Gold. In his appearance, Mayle allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out four batters.

Freshman Andrew Steele replaced Mayle with two outs remaining in the top of the ninth. Steele allowed no hits and made both batters ground out in his two-thirds of an inning appearance.

JCU went three batters up, three batters down when facing BW relief pitcher sophomore Michael Hubert, dropping both games of the double header.

Penman totaled a three-hit performance and added two RBI in the loss. Keohane, Zawazki, Mittiga, and Monroe Donnelly all added hits as well.
