Box Score The John Carroll University Blue Streaks (17-13, 7-7 OAC) hosted the Oberlin College Yeomen (9-21) in an out of conference matchup taking place at Schweickert Field.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, bases loaded, two outs, the Blue Streaks were unable to bring across the tying run. Falling at the hands of Oberlin College.Â
JCU was held hitless for the first inning of the contest, before senior Monroe Donnelly notching a double to left field.
The first four innings were held scoreless, before the Yeoman added two runs scored in the top of the fifth inning, to establish a 2-0 lead.
The Blue Streaks would counter quickly. At the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore Joe Charpentier led off the inning with a walk. Pinch hitting for junior Derek Penman was Sophomore David Ferguson, reaching base on a fielder's choice to score Charpentier.
Freshman Michael Anderson added another run before the inning's end with a single to left field, to score junior Jon Bondi to tie the game at two a piece.
The Blue and Gold followed their two run scoring inning with one hit between the sixth and seventh innings. Both the Blue Streaks and the Yeoman would battle back and forth with each other.
John Carroll responded in the eighth inning taking a 3-2 lead. Joe Charpentier rocketed a grounder to the first baseman causing an error, scoring Aaron Zawadzki.Â
However, in the ninth inning Oberlin responded scoring two runs. A crucial error occurred when the Blue Streaks attempted a 5-4-3 double play.Â
Next up, the Blue Streaks will travel to Marietta College for a decisive doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
