The JCU men's lacrosse team used a Wednesday night home matchup to set the tone for the rest of the week, and whatever shall lie ahead.

The Blue Streaks (10-4, 6-1 OAC) topped the Heidelberg Student Princes (7-8, 1-6 OAC) by a final tally of 21-2.

Needing a win to help secure home field advantage throughout the 2018 OAC Tournament, freshman Brendan Whitty answered the call with a five goal and five assist performance. Whitty's 10 points in a single game is a career-high mark.

JCU tallied more than 20 goals for the third time this season, in today's winner.

The Blue Streaks wasted no-time to establish a comfortable first quarter lead, as the Blue and Gold's season leading goal scorer in sophomore Skyler Blake notched his 32nd goal of the season, 1:18 into the match.

Blake led a scoring streak of eight consecutive JCU goals to close out the first quarter of play. Brendan Whitty contributed three goals and an assist during the opening period, with senior Logan Calhoun adding a pair of scores.

JCU established an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, allowing no shots on goal from the Student Princes in the opening 15 minutes. The Blue Streaks added pressure by controlling 18 ground balls to Heidelberg's four.

The Berg put an end on the Blue Streaks 11-0 scoring parade at the 7:44 mark, scoring on their second shot of the night.

With the four-goal first half performances by Brendan Whitty and Calhoun, and three scores by Blake, the Blue Streaks extended their lead to 14-1 at the break.

JCU outshot Heidelberg 34-3 and had the 27-9 advantage in ground balls at the half, successfully clearing all ten of their respective clear attempts.

The Blue Streaks continued their three-goal run into the second half, adding two more scores to spike a 16-1 lead, before the Student Princes countered with their second goal of the night,

The Blue and Gold ended tonight's game on a five goal run, rolling to a 21-2 victory.

JCU dominated in all statistical categories with the 42-23 edge in ground balls, successfully clearing 18 of their 19 attempts, and winning 17 out of 25 faceoffs.

Calhoun and Blake each added four goals a piece, as eight other Blue Streaks notched at least one goal in the game.

Sophomore Cam Gerard and freshman Alessandro Marigotta notched their first career collegiate goals. Freshman Jared Gorenflo and sophomore Matt Karzak collected their second career goals on Wednesday evening.

JCU closes out the regular season at home against Otterbein on Saturday at Don Shula Stadium, with opening faceoff set for 1 p.m.
