Box Score Up until this point in the season, the John Carroll men's lacrosse had played some good teams, but none were in the stratosphere where Ohio Wesleyan dwells.
That is because the Battling Bishops have among their victories this season a 12-11 upset win over two-time defending Division III national champion Salisbury.
JCU faced the #13 ranked Battling Bishops Wednesday night in Delaware, Ohio, and after a close first period, fell by a 14-5 score.
Minus some key players due to injury (including leading scorer
Skyler Blake and starting keeper
Jacob Betz), the Blue Streaks still started out strong in their first ever meeting with Ohio Wesleyan. A
Kevin Hack goal in the opening period and some key saves by
Will Good making his first collegiate start had JCU tied with Ohio Wesleyan, 1-1, after the first 15 minutes.
The game turned after that. The Battling Bishops scored six times in the second period to take a 7-2 into the break.
The onslaught continued in the third period as a 4-1 goals advantage put Ohio Wesleyan ahead 11-3 after 45 minutes.
JCU was led offensively by
Colin Corcoran, who finished the night with two of John Carroll's five goals. Also scoring were Hack,
Connor Pike and
Brendan Whitty.
Collin Rice and
Josh Plarr each had two assists.
Good made 15 saves, which is the second highest single game total in John Carroll's brief program history.
Clayton Karam had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Ohio Wesleyan (8-2) out shot John Carroll (5-3) by a 44-28 margin, and also had the edge in ground balls (29-16). Faceoffs were fairly even, with the home team winning 12 of the 22.
This was John Carroll's first loss in the state of Ohio to a Division III opponent in nearly two years.
John Carroll resumes OAC play on Wednesday, April 4th. Mount Union will host the contest, which will start at 7:00 PM.
