Box Score 2 John Carroll opened up conference play against Capital, dropping their first two OAC games of the season.
Game One - Capital 5, John Carroll 3
The Blue and Gold were led by senior Steve Virost, throwing eight innings of work and a career-high nine strikeouts.
Virost threw seven shutouts innings before Capital scored four in the eighth.
Offensively John Carroll was led by Dom Mittiga and
Patrick Keohane, each recording three hits and driving in one run.
The first seven innings of action were scoreless, until JCU scored two runs. Keohane singled through the left side of the infield bringing home
Mike McCarty.
Mittiga followed suit, singling up the middle as Keohane touched across home plate giving JCU a 2-0 lead.
Capital responded in the eighth scoring four runs. The Crusaders added another run in the ninth.
Derek Penman scored in the final frame, but JCU did not have enough to pull off the comeback.
Game Two - Capital 11, John Carroll 5
A three run second inning for Capital jump started their second victory of JCU.
John Merrill took the bump for the Blue Streaks in game two. Merrill went 4 1/3 inning allowing five earned runs.
Jonathan Blue came off the bench and knocked in two runners for the Blue Streaks.
In the fifth inning JCU got on the scoreboard,
Michael Anderson drove in
Aaron Zawadzki making the score 8-1, in favor of the Crusaders.
Trailing 11-1 heading into the ninth JCU did not throw the towel in scoring four in the final frame.
Derek Penman, got the ball rolling in the ninth scoring
Mike McCarty.
Blue, pinch hit in the ninth with runners on second and third, singling to left field bringing in both baserunners.
Sam Heaton drove in the final JCU run singling to right center field.
Next up, the Blue Streaks will host Ohio Wesleyan Tuesday at 4 p.m.
