Box Score With high expectations and the talent to match it, the Blue Streak women's lacrosse team has launched its 2018 campaign with back-to-back 20-plus goal performances.

The Wednesday night match would handedly go in favor of JCU, as the Blue Streaks topped the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 21-5. With the win, John Carroll improves to 2-0, while OWU drops their season opener.

Ohio Wesleyan was the first to get on the board, as Cory Kinder netted a ball within the first four minutes of the contest.

From there, it would be all Blue Streaks, led by seniors Grace Curatolo, Gina Vilsack, and Meghan Harte.

Curatolo found the net off of a free position to tie the score at 1-1. The senior would not stop there, as she assisted on the next three goals -- all of which were career firsts for Maddie Speer, Sophie Brandimarte and Anneke Carlo.

Adding to the dominant senior theme was Vilsack, who also netted three goals in the first 30 minutes. The third score came off of a majestic diving shot to beat the Ohio Wesleyan goalie.

Harte got on the board with a goal from a junior Brooke McQuinn assist. The Blue Streaks headed into the half up 11-1, well on their way to the second home victory of the season.

The second half started with a familiar feeling. Ohio Wesleyan got off to quick start thanks to a goal by Sloane Baumgartner. However, the Blue Streaks were quick to respond with Harte netting a goal assisted by Curatolo.

OWU and Kinder would refuse to go away as the senior would net her second goal of the game to cut the Blue Streak lead to nine.

However, the Blue Streaks then went on a 4-2 run over the next eight minutes with goals by Curatolo (2), Speer, and Brandimarte.

Harte then netted two goals in just a minute and sixteen seconds to give the Blue Streaks an 18-4 advantage with 11:44 to play in the game.

Sophomore Sarah Cilano, junior Colleen Grombala and Brandimarte would all get on the scoreboard in the final minutes to secure the 21-5 victory.

Leading the way for the Blue Streaks were the trio of seniors: Curatolo with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists), Vilsack with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) and Harte with five points (4 goals, 1 assist).

Sophomore Elyssa Zablo finished the game with five saves for the Blue and Gold in just her second career start.

The Blue Streaks will next play Wittenberg University on Saturday in Springfield, Ohio at 1:00 p.m.
