John Carroll hosting NCAA 1st and 2nd rounds this weekend

John Carroll University Tabbed To Host 2018 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Opening Rounds

John Carroll wrapped up the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship with its triumph on penalty kicks in the league championship match Saturday night against Ohio Northern.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. today, the Blue Streaks learned they would be hosts of the opening rounds for the second consecutive year.

The Blue Streaks will face off against Penn State Abington on Saturday, November 10, at 5:30 p.m., while Lycoming College and Penn State Behrend will face off at 8:00 p.m. The winners of Saturday's matches will face off in the second round on Sunday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m.

All matches will be held at Don Shula Stadium on the University Heights campus.

Ticket prices are $7 for general admission both days (no all session tickets will be sold).  Additionally, tickets are $3 for senior citizens and students, and $2 for children ages three to 12. Ticket windows will open one hour before the start of the first match Saturday and for Sunday's match.

John Carroll (13-4-2) has now appeared in the the NCAA Division III Championship for three consecutive seasons, and eight times overall -- all since 2000. John Carroll is 5-6-1 all-time in NCAA play, with its best showing in the 2003 season, when the Blue Streaks made it to the round of 16.

For the second consecutive year, the Penn State Abington (14-5-1) men's soccer team are champions of the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Nittany Lions will be making their second consecutive appearance and second overall in the NCAA Division III Championships. 

JCU and Penn State Abington have never met before in men's soccer. 

Lycoming College (15-3-2) earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Championships. The Warriors played #1 ranked Messiah College to a 0-0 double overtime tie in the Mid Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Championship on Saturday. However, Messiah was able to win the shootout, 4-1, for the conference title and the conference's automatic bid.

The Warriors will be making their fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament, all since 2013, and have a record of 4-3.
 
Penn State Behrend (14-3-2) won their ninth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament title Saturday with a 3-1 win over Medaille, and are advancing to its first NCAA Tournament since 2016. Behrend will also be making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance overall, and have a record of 2-5-1 in NCAA play through the years.

Lycoming and Penn State Behrend have played just one time before -- a 1-0 Lycoming win in 1998.

John Carroll is serving as an NCAA host for men's soccer for the third time (2005, 2017, 2018).
