Box Score Three sets was all it took for the John Carroll University Blue Streaks to earn their first conference win of their 2018 campaign as they took on the Crusaders of Capital University in Bexley, Ohio.
In the first set of the afternoon, the Blue Streaks and Crusades had their closest duel of the day. Halfway through the first set, JCU and Capital were closely matched as the Blue Streaks held a 16-15 lead. The Blue and Gold then scored four straight points to make the score 20-15, pulling away with the lead. JCU won the first set by a score of 25-20.
The second and third sets favored more for the Blue and Gold in terms of score. The Blue Streaks won the second set by a final score of 25-17, and won the final set 25-16, sweeping the floor against the Crusaders.
Sarah Calabrese and Audrey Hardig both recorded nine kills in the matchup, with Calabrese adding a team-high 14 digs. Caitlin Cianciolo finished with 12 digs, the second most for the Blue Streaks behind Calabrese.
As a team JCU combined for 44 kills and 51 digs, earning their 12th victory of the season. The Blue Streaks move to 12-8 (1-3 OAC) on the season.
John Carroll will next travel to Westerville, Ohio, to take on the Otterbein Cardinals. JCU's fifth conference matchup of the season will start at 7:00 p.m.
