The match was labelled as "Senior Night" for the John Carroll women's soccer game. Pre-game festivities honored the team's three seniors
Justina Fortson,
Rhianna Guarnera, and
Katie O'Donnell.
But in truth, it was everyone's night wearing the Blue and Gold, as the Blue Streaks rolled to a 4-2 victory over Case Westerne Reserve University Wednesday night at Don Shula Stadium.
It was certainly
Bailey Fischer's night. After collecting her 50th career point Sunday against Thomas More, the junior forward erupted with two more goals -- one in each half -- to fuel the offense.
Forston added icing to the cake as far as her senior night was concerned. The four-year starter delivered her third goal of the season off a
Lexie Keller assist to give JCU a 2-1 lead at the break.
Ady Burns had a night, as she tallied her first collegiate goal on her first recorded shot ... and it also happened to be the game winner. She was assisted on the play by O'Donnell.
Guarnera had a night. Although she allowed multiple goals for just the third time this season, she did make a season-high ten saves to deliver a fourth win for the Blue Streaks. It is the first time since 2014 that JCU will finish its non-conference schedule with a winning record.
JCU held a slight advantage (23-19) in shots taken, although the Spartans were more efficient, owning a 12-10 edge in shots on goal.Â
John Carroll, now 4-3-1 on the year, travel to Wilmington for A Saturday night match that marks the Ohio Athletic Conference opoener for both teams.
