The John Carroll men's soccer team continued its torrid start, scoring three first half goals to knock off previously undefeated Medaille, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in Buffalo, New York.
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Blue Streaks, and the third shutout of the year. The four wins to start the season matches JCU's best start since 2003, when the Blue Streaks began 4-0.
It was also the third consecutive quality win for John Carroll, as Kenyon (4-1), Penn State Behrend (3-1) and Medaille (4-1) all have suffered their only loss this season against the Blue Streaks.
There were many stars in this match, led by
Hayden Parente, who got the scoring started in the 12th minute.
Jake Lombardo found Parente on a thru ball for the 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, that same combination linked up again. Lombardo found Parente at the top of the box, and Parente finished the play for a 2-0 lead.
Lombardo decided to get into the goal scoring column himself, taking a
Jesse Marinaro pass and directing a shot in on the right side.
While not scoring again after the 35th minute, the Blue Streaks remained in control throughout, owning a 22-9 edge in shots and a 12-8 advantage in corners.
Liam McIntosh kept the Mavericks off the scoreboard with five saves.
JCU will look for its first 5-0 start since the 2000 season when it visits Case Reserve (2-1-1) Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
