The Blue Streaks were firing on all cylinders as JCU tied the program-record for most goals scored in a game, while clinching their fifth win in their last six games on Sunday afternoon, gaining their second straight conference win.
The John Carroll University women's lacrosse team topped the visiting Wilmington College Fightin' Quakers (1-10, 0-3 OAC), 22-1, in a Sunday matinee at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
With the win, JCU advances to 7-3 on the season, honing a 2-1 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
JCU was led by junior
Meghan Harte, who had a game-high four goals in the winning effort. Harte accumulated her 100th career point on a day that featured four goals off of five shots, two assists, three ground balls and four draw controls.
Junior
Grace Curatolo also had a team-high in points with nine, as Harte and junior
Gina Vilsack shared second with six points each.
The Blue Streaks scored three goals within the first 1:22 to start the early rout. The first three goals were netted by sophomore
Brooke McQuinn, Harte and Vilsack.
The scoring continued as freshman
Sarah Cilano and sophomore
Alexis Guage contributed to the cause, combining for three goals in the first half.
Freshman
Colleen Grombala scored a team-high three goals in the first half, as Vilsack and Curatolo led the Blue Streaks with four points apiece in the first stanza.
JCU ended the half with a 14-0 lead, claiming advantages in ground balls (12-5), shots (22-0) and draw controls (15-0).
The Blue Streaks then added eight more goals to the day's count, as freshman
Mandy Cheravitch collected her first career goal and first career hat trick. Wilmington's Becca Petra scored the lone goal for the Fightin' Quakers midway through the second half.
JCU then scored five more goals to round out the match, as junior
Mary Jo Murino got her first goal of the season and freshman
Farrah Nelson collected her second of the year.
Defensively, Wilmington only got off two shots and JCU collected 24 draw controls to Wilmington's one. JCU also collected 23 ground balls to Wilmington's nine. The Blue Streaks were a perfect 6-for-6 on clears, and only allowed Wilmington to convert 5-of-16 attempts.
Up next, the Blue Streaks host the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets, this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Don Shula Stadium.
