Records Fall As Women's Lacrosse Rolls To Victory Over Ohio Northern

A career day, both individually and program-wide, paved the way for another conference victory for the John Carroll women's lacrosse team.
 
The Blue Streaks topped the host Ohio Northern Polar Bears, 27-5, on Saturday afternoon in Ada, Ohio.
 
JCU surpassed five previous marks in the winning effort. The Blue Streaks set new program-records for a single match in goals (27), points (47), assists (20), shots (51) and draw controls (26).
 
With the win, the Blue Streaks advance to 9-4 overall, with a 4-2 Ohio Athletic Conference record. ONU drops to 3-11 and 2-4 in the OAC.
 
Leading the way for JCU was junior Grace Curatolo, who collected a program-record 13 total points. Curatolo netted six goals and seven assists, with fellow junior Gina Vilsack scoring five goals on the day. Vilsack's fourth goal was the 150th of her career.
 
Sophomore Brooke McQuinn and junior Meghan Harte also netted five goals in the game, as Harte setting a personal season-high. McQuinn also contributed 14 draw controls, which tied her own record for most in a game by an individual.
 
JCU went on three multi-goal runs in the first half, scoring 16 in the opening frame.
 
Vilsack and Grombala each scored four goals in the opening half, with McQuinn and Curatolo contributing three in the opening stanza. Curatolo collected a team-high seven points in the first half.
 
At the half, the Blue Streaks held a 16-4 lead, outshooting the Polar Bears 30-6. The Blue Streaks also collected 18 draw controls to ONU's three.
 
The second half saw JCU score 10 unanswered goals. Freshmen Madison Pesicka and Sarah Cilano each added a goal down the stretch for the Blue Streaks.
 
In net, three goalkeepers clocked time for JCU, combining to hold ONU to five goals. This was the sixth time this season in which JCU held an opponent to less than 10 goals. John Carroll finished the game with 29 ground balls to Ohio Northern's 18.
 
The Blue Streaks will finish out their regular season at home over the next two games. The team will be back in action this Wednesday, when Heidelberg will visit Don Shula Stadium.
