Offense Enjoys Day For The Record Books In Win Over Muskies

John Carroll men's lacrosse woke up early on Friday morning and put in a complete effort, breaking three school record and scoring 14 first half goals on the way to a 24-3 victory over Muskingum at Don Shula Stadium.

JCU scored a program-record 24 goals to re-write the school-record for most goals scored in a game. The Blue Streaks also totaled 41 points and collected 17 assists in the contest, both new school-records.

The Blue Streaks improve to 7-4 and a perfect 5-0 in conference action. Muskingum is now 4-8, and 1-5 in OAC play.

Michael Hubert led all scorers with four goals. Connor Pike added two goals and three assists, while Patrick O'Grady also collected five points off of three goals and two assists. Collin Riley scored three times for the Blue Streaks, also adding an assist.

John Carroll scored seven goals in the first period. Hubert started the scoring with a shot off a Rice pass just 2:41 into the game. Midway through the first, Logan Calhoun, O'Grady, and Hubert scored to make it 4-0 with 6:05 to go. Blake scored twice and Pike scored in the final two minutes to make it a 7-0 game.

Hubert fired his third goal just 12 seconds into the second period. Forty-nine seconds later, MacGregor Roberts made it a 9-0 lead. The unanswered streak would end at 10 after a Keegan Flinter goal was matched by Muskingum's Jake Stewart at 11:56.

The Blue Streaks scored four more goals before the half. Jackson Twomey scored his first goal of the year with 8:42 to play. Hubert and Pike would score once more each, and Colin Corcoran would drill his third on the season with 3:06 to go.

At the half, JCU was outshooting Muskingum, 44-6, and winning the ground ball battle, 32-6. The Blue Streaks were a perfect 7-for-7 on clears. The Blue and Gold won 15-of-17 faceoffs.

Patrick O'Grady scored three goals and collected two assists in the second half of action, where JCU added 10 goals to Muskingum's two.

Collin Riley collected a career-high four points off of his first career hat trick, all in the second half.

17 total Blue Streaks collected a point in the game, as JCU topped Muskingum in four different categories not including the one's that broke school records. The Blue Streaks out-shot MU 69-15, caused seven turnovers to Muskingum's five, and collected 58 ground balls to MU's 11. JCU also won 28 of the 31 faceoffs in the match.
