John Carroll University baseball opened the season with a doubleheader in Beckley, W. Va. on Saturday, falling in both games to Allegheny College.
Patrick Scholla drove in three runs on the day on 2-for-8 at the plate.
Matthew Donnelly had five hits, going 5-for-9 with an RBI.
Monroe Donnelly went .500, hitting 4-for-8.
Game 1 - Allegheny 13, John Carroll 7
Three multi-run innings were the undoing of John Carroll in game one, as Allegheny took the contest by a score of 13-7.
Drew Vargo (0-1) started for JCU, allowing five earned runs in 5.2 innings. Chase Boyer (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Allegheny, giving up four runs in five innings.

Patrick Keohane each had multi-hit games for the Blue and Gold. Five different Blue Streaks drove in a run in game one.
Monroe Donnelly went 2-for-3 with two hits, an RBI and two walks.
Allegheny got on the scoreboard first in the second inning with back-to-back RBI singles with one out. An RBI groundout with two outs made the score 3-0.
Dominic Mittiga reached on an error in the third, which brought home
Patrick Scholla with the first JCU run of 2017.
Allegheny scored the next six runs over three innings. Both teams scored five in the sixth. Keohane scored
Matthew Donnelly on a bases-loaded single, followed by a Scholla sacrifice fly. A
Monroe Donnelly double scored Bondi, and JCU cut the deficit to two with a Mittiga sacrifice fly and
James Molnar RBI single.
Allegheny scored four runs between the eighth and ninth inning to seal the win.
Game 2 - Allegheny 7, John Carroll 6
A late rally fell just short, as Allegheny topped John Carroll 7-6.
Fred Moore (0-1) pitched five innings in his collegiate debut, with both runs coming as unearned. The freshman struck out four batters.
Nathaniel Wenson pitched four innings in relief, giving up five runs on four hits. Corey Keenan (1-0) struck out four Blue Streaks in five innings; he gave up a run on four hits.
Patrick Scholla drove in two runs.
Matthew Donnelly and
Monroe Donnelly each had two hits for the second consecutive game.
Joe Charpentier also contributed two hits in a start at catcher. John Carroll had 12 total hits in game two.
Jacob Shick drove in the game's first run with a first inning single. JCU answered in the third on Keohane's double to center field.
The Gators scored three straight runs before
Nathan Reich hit an infield RBI single in the seventh inning. After a sacrifice fly and inside-the-park home run in the sixth and seventh, JCU faced a 7-2 deficit heading into the final three outs.
Christopher Houle pinch hit to lead off the frame, drawing a walk. After an error, Scholla singled to center field and brought in both runners. Monroe and
Matthew Donnelly each singled, with
Matthew Donnelly's hit scoring Scholla.
Mittiga cut the lead to one run on a center field double and Charpentier drew a two-out walk. With the bases loaded, Cy Pery earned the save.
