JCU Posts Second Highest Point Total In Program History In Win Over Olivet

Pete Moran is already making history just three games into his tenure as the John Carroll men's basketball head coach.

His Blue Streaks defeated Olivet College, 126-105, on day one of the Kalamazoo College Thanksgiving Classic for their third win of the season.

By scoring 126 points, this game marks the first time in program history that John Carroll has opened any season by scoring at least 100 points in the first three games. The 126 points are the second-highest single-game point total in program history. The only output higher was the 137 points recorded on November 18, 2005 when the Blue Streaks faced Emory & Henry.

John Carroll quickly got to work against the Comets, taking and remaining in the lead for the entire half. After the Blue Streaks increased their lead to 15 (59-44), Olivet managed to chip away at the Blue Streak lead in the final minutes of the half. However, John Carroll still maintained a double-digit lead going into halftime (59-48).

The Blue Streaks continued to add to their lead in the second half and never looked back, increasing their lead to a game-high 32 points (97-65). Brian Papich had the honor of eclipsing the century mark when he buried a jumper at the 9:41 mark of the second half to put JCU ahead, 101-74.

Six Blue Streaks finished the game in double figures, including Matthew Csuhran (27), Ryan Berger (22), Jackson Sartain (17), Allen Stokes (17), John Cirillo (12), and Antonio Vuyancih (11). Including today's game, Csuhran, Berger, Sartain, Cirillo, and Vuyancih are all averaging at least 10 points per game.

On defense, John Carroll also forced 26 turnovers, which resulted in 42 points for the Blue Streaks.

Papich led the Blue Streaks with six rebounds. Sean Flannery had a career high ten assists.

The three ball continues to be the sweet spot for the Blue Streaks. As a team, John Carroll went 21 for 39 in three-pointers, accounting for 63 of the team's total points and marking a new program-high for threes made in a single game. The previous record stood at 17, which was most recently set in 2009 against Centenary.

John Carroll will next face Kalamazoo College tomorrow, November 26, on the final day of the Kalamazoo College Thanksgiving Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 PM.
