Powerhouses Keep JCU Women's Soccer Off Scoreboard On Season Opening Weekend

John Carroll played the number five team in the nation on Saturday and the defending North Coast Athletic Conference champions on Sunday.

That was quite a season-opening weekend slate of opponents for the 2016 Blue Streaks.

Preseason All-America forward Destinie Graves figured in both goals for the host Centre College Colonels on Saturday evening to lead her team to a 2-0 victory over the Blue Streaks. Centre, an NCAA Division III championship semifinalist from a year ago, outshot the Blue Streaks 20-7 and used an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

JCU then faced DePauw University in a neutral site game on Sunday in Danville, Kentucky. The Tigers scored twice in each half to post a 4-0 win over the Blue Streaks.

DePauw outshot John Carroll 19-8 and won the corner advantage 12-1.

JCU, now 0-2-0 on the year, returns home for its Shula Stadium opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7, against the College of Wooster.
