John Carroll University opened up home play in a competitive non-conference matchup with Case Western Reserve University. JCU lost the contest 2-0, dropping the squad to 3-3-1 on the season.
The last time John Carroll did not score a goal at Don Shula Stadium was back on November 2, 2013 against Wilmington College. The match finished in a scoreless draw.
JCU was last shutout in a losing effort back in October of 2011, in which they lost to Ohio Northern University, 2-0.
The first 33 minutes of the contest featured JCU and CWRU battling back and forth, each getting quality chances.
In the 34th minute, Case Western took advantage of a miscommunication between the John Carroll defense, giving Joshua Prosser the opening goal of the game.
John Carroll struggled to challenge the Case Western goalkeeper, Calvin Boyle. Junior Jessie Marinaro was the lone Blue Streaks to register a shot on goal in the contest.
Heading into the locker rooms at half, the visiting Spartans held a 1-0 lead over the Blue Streaks.
The second half displayed offensive pressure, producing four solid scoring chances for the Blue Streaks. Junior Dalton Browsky was on the producing side of several of the chances after powering a shot that rang off the crossbar. Boyle stopped the other the two other attempts on goal, while  junior Jake Lombardo's attempt was pushed narrowly wide.
Case Reserve cemented the game when Marques Manta found Paul Darmstadter on a counter attack in the 75th minute. Darmstadter pushed a shot past the diving hands of JCU's goalkeeper Liam McIntosh for the second scoring tally.
The Spartans would hold onto the 2-0 lead for the victory.
With the win tonight, Case Western Reserve University moves to 3-3-1 on the season, all of their wins this season have come against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. John Carroll drops to 3-3-1 on the season.
The Blue Streaks will take on Carnegie Mellon University Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2:00 pm at Don Shula Stadium.
