Eleven Goal Run Caps Off Wednesday Win For Women's Lacrosse

A well-balanced offensive performance was the order of the day for the John Carroll women's lacrosse team.

The Blue Streaks had nine different players register a goal on Wednesday evening en route to an 18-9 victory over visiting Muskingum.

The victory moves the Blue Streaks record to 8-4, 2-2 OAC while the Muskies fall to 4-11, 0-4 OAC. Gina Vilsack led the team in goals with four on a beautiful night in University Heights where JCU unleashed 42 shots on its opponent.

Meghan Harte, Vilsack, and Brooke McQuinn all tallied goals in the first 4:56 of the contest to give JCU an early 3-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, Muskingum would score their first goal of the game before Grace Curatolo netted her 22nd score on the campaign.

The offensive-packed game continued as JCU expanded its lead to 5-2 thanks to a Riley Sharp goal in the 21st minute, her second score of the season.

A 4-0 scoring run by the Muskies was answered by the Blue Streaks with a trio of goals by Vilsack, Marielle St. Amand, and Jillian Millard. At the intermission, the see-saw affair played in JCU's advantage, 8-6.

Only 57 seconds into the second half and JCU was at it again with a free position shot and goal from Vilsack, her fourth on the day. Moments later, the Blue Streaks took advantage of another free position opportunity with a goal from Kaley LaForce. Six more JCU scores put the score at 16-6, the largest of the game for head coach Rachel Dell. Key contributors during the scoring rally were Alexis Gauge, Annamae Bolen, Millard, Curatolo, and Vilsack.

Not only was the stingy Blue Streak defense able to hold the Muskies to zero goals in the second half, but the offense went on an 11-0 run after trailing 6-5 earlier in the match. The teams would exchange goals in the closing minutes to settle on the final nine-goal margin.

JCU was solid all evening on the restarts, winning 23 of a possible 29 draws, and controlled the 50/50 balls by collecting 41 ground balls to Muskingum's 27.

Up next for the Blue and Gold is a road match vs Otterbein on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Westerville, Ohio.
