The John Carroll men's team have turned the confines of Don Shula Stadium into a very difficult place for opponents to visit.
Despite coming off a tough loss to rival Mount Union on Wednesday, the Blue Streaks bounced back and defeated the Crusaders, 13 to 10, on Saturday afternoon.
John Carroll moves to 6-5, 2-1 in the OAC, while Capital falls to 9-4, 1-2 OAC.
Eight different Blue Streaks scored in Saturday's match-up led by
Michael Hubert with five goals and one assist.
Although Capital opened up the scoring in the first quarter with two goals, JCU responded. With under three minutes remaining in the opening quarter, the Blue Streaks managed to score three quick goals and gain control of the lead.
Dakota Thomas started the rally, followed by
Declan O'Grady just 30 seconds later. With less than one minute remaining,
Michael Hubert scored his first goal of the day to give the Blue and Gold a 3-2 edge heading into the second quarter.
JCU only allowed the Crusaders to add one more goal to the scoreboard, while the Blue Streaks added four more. Brent Walton scored his second of the day for Capital at the 5:44 mark.
Gary Anile,
Connor Pike,
Collin Riley, and Hubert found the back of the net in the second quarter. The Blue Streaks finished the first half with a 7-3 lead.
The Blue and Gold maintained their four-goal lead throughout the third quarter, entering the final quarter of play leading 11-7. Within the first minute of the quarter,
Collin Rice fired in a shot, but then Capital's Carson Paull answered with his second goal of the day. Hubert scored his third and fourth goal during this quarter.
In the final fifteen minutes of play, John Carroll kept its focus and four-point edge. A quick Capital goal in attempts to close the gap by Brennan O'Callaghan could not sway the momentum. With just over ten minutes remaining, Pike went coast-to-coast to find O'Grady for the 12th JCU goal. O'Callaghan recorded his second goal in the fourth, but Hubert answered with his fifth of the day. The Crusaders scored one last goal before the time ran out to make the final score 13-10.
JCU outshot Capital, 50-23. In addition, the Blue Streaks won 18 of the 27 faceoffs.
Carl Roman had seven saves on the day, while Capital goalie, Cole Palmby recorded 15.
The Blue Streaks will travel to New Concord, OH on Wednesday, April 20 to take Muskingum University at 1:00 p.m.
