Men's Basketball Closes Out 2016 With Appearance In Music City Classic

Before the calendar flips to 2017, the John Carroll men's basketball trip has a final road trip planned.

The Blue Streaks are taking part in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn. from Dec. 29-30.

Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - Hendrix - Live Stats / Video
Friday, 4:00 p.m. - Marymount - Live Stats

It is the first matchup for JCU (3-5, 2-2 OAC) since a Dec. 17 road loss to Ohio Northern. On tap are two games, a Thursday tilt with Hendrix College and a Friday date with Marymount University.

Hendrix (3-4, 0-1 SAA) has had over three weeks off following a trip to Arkansas for the Cliff Garrison Classic on Dec. 3-4. Their last game ended with a 101-74 win over Rust.

Sophomore guard Preston Smith leads the Warriors with 19.4 points per game. Senior backcourt mate Hank Aldous is second in scoring at 18.8 points. Aldous is tops on the Warriors with 7.8 rebounds per contest. Hendrix is averaging 80.1 points on offense, but allows an average of 84.7 points to opponents.

Friday's matchup features the Marymount Saints (5-4, CAC), who have won four of their last five. Junior forward Dimitri Rucker (11.0) is one of three Saints who average double-figures in the scoring column, alongside guards Michael Anderson (10.8) and Ibrahim Kamara (10.4).

Brandon Rogers shoots 42.9 percent from three-point range, and Emmett Sloan has a nose for the ball with 2.0 steals per game.

After the trip, John Carroll will return home for a Jan. 4 home game against Heidelberg University.
