Box Score John Carroll men's basketball held a 13 point halftime lead, but could not hold on in the season's second game. The Blue Streaks fell, 90-89, as Hanover sunk a three-pointer in the final seconds of Saturday's contest in Cincinnati.
John Carroll heads home from The Queen City with a pair of losses in the Mount St. Joseph Tip-Off Classic. JCU is 0-2 for the first time since 2001-02.
The Blue Streaks shot a solid 31-61 from the field, including 8-19 from the three-point line. However, John Carroll sent Hanover to the free throw line 40 times. The Panthers would make 28 of them.
Leading the way for John Carroll was senior David Linane with 19 points and eight assists. Junior
John Cirillo contributed 13 points and rebounds. Linane, Cirillo,
Simon Kucharewicz,
Antonio Vuyancih and
Tim Ludlow all recorded 10 or more points.
Hanover held an early 8-7 lead, but JCU went on a 17-4 run over the next five minutes. Hanover cut the lead to seven, but the Blue Streaks roared back for a 59-46 lead. A quick run shrunk the lead to seven early in the second, but JCU kept pace until a run began at the 12:17 mark. Hanover nearly took the lead at 74-73 with 9:10 to go, but layups from Ludlow and
Doug Caputo extended the lead once more.
John Carroll scored its final points on a Linane, Jr. jump shot with 2:34 to go. Hanover made three free throws and a layup before taking possession with eight seconds to go. Cam Fails made a three-pointer to end the contest. Fails finished with 18 points and four assists.
The Blue Streaks return to University Heights next weekend as they host LaRoche College and Hope College on Nov. 26 and Nov. 29.
