On the regular season's final day, John Carroll women's soccer honored its senior duo and celebrated with a 4-1 victory over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
JCU closed out their home slate by scoring two goals in each half, and sending out
Dre Regrut and
Maria Ploplis in style. Muskingum falls to 4-18, including 1-8 in the OAC.
While their time in Shula Stadium has ended, the duo still has one final shot at the OAC Tournament starting on Tuesday evening. Opponent and time are yet to be determined.
After a hard fought regular season, and finishing with a 7-6-6 (4-3-2 OAC) mark, the Blue Streaks embark into postseason action for a program record ninth consecutive year.
Justina Fortson started the party in the 35th minute by sending home a corner kick from
Lexie Keller. The Muskingum goalie reached for the kick and it fell over her outstretched glove onto the foot of Fortson. In the 43rd, Keller earned her own goal on a bending shot into the upper-left corner.
The Blue Streaks outshot Muskingum, 16-0, in the first half. In total, JCU won the shooting battle, 28-6.
Rhianna Guarnera only needed two saves in the win.
Bailey Fischer pushed the lead to three in the 61st minute, and just three minutes later,
Amanda Johnson scored her first goal of the year to put an exclamation point on the day. Muskingum would score in the 78th on a shot by Amanda Sias.
Regrut and Ploplis presumably end their JCU home careers with a 21-9-6 record at Shula Stadium. Overall, the seniors have accumulated 35 wins, and have a chance to expand on that on Tuesday night.
