For all that John Carroll women's lacrosse could celebrate in its inaugural season, it was an unceremonious end to say the least.
12 unanswered goals by the visiting Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets turned a 6-3 John Carroll lead into what became a 22-9 defeat in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semfinal round game at Don Shula Stadium Wednesday night.
Meghan Harte started off with a bang as she scored two early goals, and
Grace Curatolo also scored a pair as the Blue Streaks built a 6-3 lead with 8:28 remaining in the opening half.
After a Yellow Jacket timeout, the momentum of the game seemed to change almost instantaneously. In the final 8:04 of the half, Baldwin Wallace found the net six times to burst out to a 9-6 advantage.
The onslaught continued in the second half as the Yellow Jackets would open the period with six more goals to up the lead to 15-6. It was not until
Annamae Bolen fired in a goal with 15:21 left to play in regulation time that JCU snapped its scoring drought of over 22 minutes.
The damage had been done as John Carroll never got closer than seven goals the rest of the way.
John Carroll's first season came to an end with a record of 10-5. Baldwin Wallace, now 8-5, advances to the OAC Championship game where it will face #1 seed Mount Union in Alliance.
