Men's Basketball Sets Blistering Pace in Blowout Win

In their first two games of the season, the John Carroll men's basketball team made a habit of blowing opponents away early in the second half.

On Friday night, it was a first-half offensive display that sealed a victory for the Blue Streaks.

John Carroll dropped 66 points in the first half on the way to a 117-93 win over Birmingham-Southern College in Crestview Hills, Ky. in the first game of the Coach Jim Connor Classic.

Six Blue Streaks notched double-digits in the scoring column, led by Ryan Farragher and his 18 points. John Cirillo added 15 points, while Will Starks and Antonio Vuyanich scored 14 and 13, respectively. David Linane added eight assists and two steals in the effort. It was a team victory, as 16 different Blue Streaks saw time.

John Carroll improves to 3-0 on the young season. The Bearcats drop to 0-3.

JCU shot 65.9 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 53.3 percent clip from behind-the-arc. Birmingham-Southern was able to score 46 in the first half, but their defense could not contain the Blue Streaks.

The Panthers were only out-rebounded by one, but JCU took better care of the basketball. The Blue Streaks only turned it over 10 times to BSC's 19 giveaways. The game tightened up in the second half, but JCU matched the Panther runs and led by as many as 28.

JCU finished the game shooting 59.5 percent, with a 48.1 percentage from three-point range. Danny Wallack and Cirillo each recorded three buckets from long-range.

John Carroll buried 13 three-pointers; it is the seventh time in the last three seasons that they have reached that mark in a single-game. It was their most points scored in a contest since a 119-89 win over Geneva College on Dec. 29, 2012 in Wooster, Ohio.

JCU hits the hardwood tomorrow at 2:00 against Rust College in Crestview Hills.
