The John Carroll women's soccer team, however, refused to give in to a recent string of setbacks.
Abbey Piccillo's goal in the 68th minute off a pass from
Justina Fortson snapped a five-match skid to led the Blue Streaks to a 1-0 victory over host Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, on Wednesday afternoon.
Piccillo, who missed most of the early part of the campaign due to injury, scored her first collegiate goal and made it a game winner when she parked a shot from 15 yards out in the upper left corner.
Rhianna Guarnera, who has also missed time with an injury this season, stopped three shots to record the shutout win.
John Carroll dominated play, winning the shots battle by a 20-6 count and had all eight of the corner kicks logged in the match.
The win improves the Blue Streaks' mark on the year to 3-10-1 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.
