Box Score Having the honor of leading off a busy weekend for John Carroll athletics, the women's soccer team looked to set the hopeful tone for Homecoming Weekend.

JCU faced off against a potent Case Western Reserve (5-1-2) team who had not lost since August 31 and had shutout OAC institutions in its previous two game. The Blue and Gold (5-2-1) held their own battling the Spartans to a scoreless draw on Friday evening inside Don Shula Stadium.

Senior goalkeeper Haley McDonald had a busy night in preserving the draw finishing with 12 saves.

The Pittsburgh, Pa. native came up with a perhaps her biggest stop of the night with 30 seconds remaining in regulation after a free kick from CWRU's Caitlyn McGillis deflected off a Blue Streak defender right in front of the net.

Case Western Reserve, which had a 26-9 shot advantage, continued the tough pressure into the first overtime. Led by McDonald the Blue Streak defensive was up for the task turning away two shots and blocking two more Spartan attempts.

With one final offensive opportunity in the second overtime Kay Akerly sailed her attempt for the game-winner over the net with 1:12 remaining.

John Carroll has the game's first prime scoring opportunity in the 15th minute. However, sophomore Andrea Regrut was unable to put home the loose ball in front of the CWRU net.

John Carroll remains at home to close out its 3-game home stretch with a 7 p.m. contest on Tuesday against Gove City.

As part of homecoming weekend at John Carroll, the Blue Streaks have a tripleheader of athletic events on Saturday. The men's soccer team hosts Geneva at noon, volleyball hosts Wilmington at 3 p.m. and the No. 8 football team hosts Baldwin Wallace in the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
