John Carroll and Mount Union square off on Wednesday in the OAC Semifinals.
Having displayed all of the aspects of a very successful team this year, the John Carroll University men's lacrosse team (12-3) will be looking to put together two complete games as the Blue Streaks embark on the OAC Tournament.
Third-seeded John Carroll heads to Alliance, Ohio to take on second-seeded Mount Union (12-4) in a 5 p.m. contest on Wednesday, April 30.
Since dropping an 8-6 game at home to Mount Union on April 16, John Carroll closed out the regular season with a 3-0 mark outscoring the opposition 37-17.
Mount Union had its 11-game win streak snapped on Saturday with a 12-6 setback at Otterbein.
The Blue Streaks will have to overcome the Purple Raiders' zone defense which held John Carroll to six goals, tied for the lowest total for the season.
The two teams met on April 16 with Mount Union taking the 8-6 win. The Purple Raiders opened up an 8-4 advantage with 5:05 remaining in the game. JCU cut its deficit to two on a
Gary Anile goal with 2:59 remaining but John Carroll could not mount an offensive attack down the stretch.
John Carroll did dominant the faceoff with
Kyle Patterson being victorious 11 of 17 times.
Reining OAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Declan O'Grady will look to make sure the offense stays on point and connect from outside. The freshman racked up 10 goals in helping John Carroll to wins over Capital and Wilmington last week.
O'Grady has played a key role in helping the Blue Streaks mature quickly as a team. Earlier in the season Saint Vincent and Thiel made key second-half runs to close in on John Carroll. Capital looked to do the same last week. After the Crusaders' cut the Blue Streaks' lead to 6-4, O'Grady led JCU on a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter with a pair of goals to close out the game.
John Carroll has put together one of the most dominant offenses in the league. The Blue and Gold feature the top two goal scorers in the league in O'Grady (39) and
Stephen Leous (35).
Michael Roth will be counted on to facilitate the offense. The freshman ranks third with 28 assists.
Mount Union will counter with one of the league's top goalies in Collin Peters. Peters ranks tops in the conference with a 61.8 save percentage and sports a 6.83 goals against average.
Patterson and
Jack MacLean will be counted on in the midfield. Patterson leads the conference with 171 faceoff wins. He will battle with Andrew Rosati (80-of-154 on faceoffs) and Mike Richardson (41-of-92). MacLean has been a key part of Patterson's success leading the OAC with 74 ground balls.
Brian Bedell and
Tommy Adolf will look to slow down the Mount Union attach. Bedell ranks second in the OAC with a 60.6 save percentage and second with a 6.64 goals against average. A key to his success has been the stellar play of Adolf who checks in third with 33 caused turnovers.
Hogan Harris will look to lead the charge offensively for the Purple Raiders. He is tops on the team and eighth in the OAC with 25 goals.
Live stats and
video will be provided by Mount Union.
The winner faces the winner of the Otterbein-Baldwin Wallace game on Saturday, May 3. The game time will be announced later in the week and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
