NCAA Preview: John Carroll Football Hosts Centre At Noon Saturday

John Carroll University will serve as a host site for the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Football Championship, which will be held Saturday, November 22. Don Shula Stadium at Wasmer Field on the John Carroll campus will serve as the playing site, and the game will feature Centre College from Danville, Ky. against the host John Carroll Blue Streaks.

Kickoff from University Heights, Ohio, is set for 12:00 noon.

"We're excited to play again back at Don Shula Stadium," said head coach Tom Arth. "It means a lot to us to play at home. We look forward to having a great crowd here and to representing our school."

Centre has a record of 10-0 and hails from the Southern Athletic Association. John Carroll has a record of 9-1 and represents the Ohio Athletic Conference. Both schools received at-large bids into the NCAA playoff field from the Pool C category (institutions from automatic qualifying conferences that are not conference champions).

John Carroll is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament, and its second straight. Ranked sixth at the end of the regular season by D3football.com and ninth by the American Football Coaches Association, the Blue Streaks will be hosting an NCAA postseason game for the second time in program history. John Carroll will be looking for its first win at home in the postseason having lost its first round contest with St. John Fisher last year.

The Blue Streaks featured one of the top offenses and defense in the nation. JCU ranks seventh nationally in total offense and fourth in the nation in total defense.

Centre is appearing in the NCAA field for the second time, and first time since the 2011 season. That year, the Colonels knocked off Hampden-Sydney before bowing out in the round of 16 to Mount Union.

The winner will advance to the second round where it will face the winner of Wheaton vs. Benedictine on Saturday, November 29.
