It has been a long time since John Carroll has been able to control its own destiny when it came to a high seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Blue Streaks looked like they had been doing it for years.
In their final match of the season, Blue Streaks squared off against the Fightin' Muskies of Muskingum University. The lone senior on the team, Jessica Kodrich, was honored on Senior Day at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, but the team was carried by underclassmen throughout the match.
The Blue Streaks held control for the totality of all three sets, sweeping the Fightin' Muskies 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.
JCU came out with a ton of emotion, jolting out to an early 8-3 lead. The Blue Streak lead was extended to 18-11 when Muskingum called their second timeout of the set. Coming out of the timeout, the Fightin' Muskies rallied, cutting the lead down to three at 24-21, but JCU was able to pull away to win the first set 25-21 thanks to big performances from sophomore
Alexa Webber and freshman
Leah Svoboda, who both contributed four kills each.

The second set did not start out as easy as the first for the Blue Streaks as JCU did not hold a lead greater than three points until they were on top 14-10. At that point, the Blue Streaks took control as a couple of services errors by the Fightin' Muskies squashed their chances at a comeback. Stretching their lead to as large as eight during the set, JCU eventually captured the second set as well, 25-17. 10 assists from sophomore
Kit O'Shaughnessy and three kills by sophomore
Leah Switalski helped lead the way.
Muskingum came out in the third set with an energy that was not present during the first two sets as they took their first lead of the match when they took a 4-3 lead. After stretching the lead to 6-4, the Blue Streaks buckled down and turned the tide, going on a 9-0 run and reclaiming a lead they would never relinquish. Muskingum was able to pull it within four at 24-20, but JCU put the final nail in the coffin on the ensuing point and took the final set 25-20.   Â

Webber and Switalski lead the team in kills with 11 each and O'Shaugnessy piled up a team-high 34 assists over the three match sweep.
The victory over Muskingum propelled JCU to a 21-6 on the regular season and 7-2 in conference play. Muskingum slipped to 16-15 and 2-7 in league play. The loss prevented the Fightin' Muskies from qualifying for the tournament.
As for the impending OAC Tournament, the Blue Streaks secured the #2 seed thansk to wins over Otterbein and Heidelberg, who finished tied with John Carroll for second place.
The Blue Streaks will host their first OAC Tournament match since 2001 when they face the #7 seed, which appears to be Baldwin Wallace. JCU swept its crosstown rival back at home back on October 21.
