To be honest, John Carroll's history against Muskingum University in the sport of softball is not a pleasant account.

The 2013 Blue Streak softball team, perhaps to their credit, does not feature a single history major. They are only concerned about what is in front of them.

On Wednesday afternoon, John Carroll took to the softball diamond against the Fighting Muskies looking to defy a history that featured a 3-17-1 home record in the series. On this day, JCU would nearly match that total with a pair of close-fought wins by the near identicval scores of 3-1 and 3-0.

Rachel Brynes pitched and completed both games, allowing just a single run -- a solo homer in the first inning of the opener.

However, John Carroll answered with a lead-off home run coming from the junior infielder Samantha Becker.

Carroll would cross home plate again in the third inning, when Mackenzie Griffin brought in Becker for what proved to be the winning tally.

For insurance in the fifth, Griffen again brought in Becker, this time on a sacrifice fly.

Byrnes finished with six strikeouts, gave up two walks and the one earned run.

Just as fast as a blink of the eye, the second game was over. After seven innings that covered just one hour and ten minutes, the Blue Streaks had secured another victory over the Fighting Muskies.

This time around, Carroll got on the scoreboard first with a homer from the bat of Ally Kleinhans. It was the only run the Streaks would need.

For good measure, they tacked on two more on an RBI single by Morgan Robinson in the sixth that plated Beckie Reid and Griffin.

Byrnes would finish the day with 14 innings in total, striking out nine batters and walking two to imrpove to 15-1 on the year.

JCU is now 20-8 overall and 9-3 (3rd) in the OAC -- one game in back of league leaders Capital and Marietta (whom the Blue Streaks face Saturday).
