Jordan Murphy and the Blue Streaks have already topped the century mark twice so far this season
Box Score
The John Carroll men's basketball team remained undefeated on the young 2013-14 season, topping the century mark for the second time in four games with a 111-92 victory over host Buffalo State Saturday in the second and final day of the Coles Classic in Buffalo, New York.
Despite the final score, John Carroll actually trailed early on. The Blue Streaks missed their first four field goal attempts and were behind, 6-2, after two minutes of action.
The struggle was short lived. The Streaks uncorked a 22-4 run over the next eight minutes and were never threatened again.
The win moves John Carroll's record to 4-0 on the year, and the Blue Streaks have won all four games by double figure margins.
The Blue Streaks were led by a pair of double doubles from
Jake Hollinger (23 points, ten rebounds) and
Simon Kucharewicz (15 points, 11 boards). There were four other players who reached double figures in the scoring column as
Doug Caputo (15),
Tim Ludlow (13), Joey Vuyanich (13) and David Hendickson (11) helped fuel the offensive fireworks.
John Carroll had a 36-11 advantage in second chance points, and dominated the boards to a 59-41 advantage.
Hollinger was named the tournament MVP after scoring 37 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the two games. He shot 14-24 (.583) from the field.
"Jake is a phenomenal athlete who came to play all weekend," said head coach Mike Moran. "When he finishes around the rim, he is very dangerous."
