Swimming And Diving Splits In Double-Dual Meet At Cleveland Dual Tournament

With the Cleveland Dual Tournament underway, the John Carroll University swimming and diving teams were faced with a prime opportunity against local competition.

Securing its first win of the season the John Carroll defeated Notre Dame College 263-166 and fell to Case Western Reserve University 233-205. The meets, part of the Cleveland Dual Tournament, combines both the men's scores and women's scores when factoring results.

Lindsey Fano paced the women's squad. The sophomore took first in the 200-IM with a time of 2:13.18  to give the women their first race win of the day. Fano would go on to win the 100-breast at 1:08.27.

Victoria Watson captured the 100-free be nearly a whole second over Case Western Reserve's Hannah Saunders.

The Blue Streaks started the meet strong taking second in the 200-medley relay with Fano, Christine Gabb, Ann Murphy and Margaret Zagrobelny competing in the race for John Carroll.

The men secured two of the top three spots in the 50-free with Gabe Nock touching first at 21.88 and teammate Nick Holvey right behind at 22.14.

Ben Parker also had a strong day for the Blue Streaks. Parker took first in the 500-free clocking in at 5:00.34. Michael Goggins gave John Carroll three individual wins taking the 100-breast in 1:04.19.

John Carroll finished strong taking the final event of the day, the 200-free relay. Holvey and Nock teamed with David Sved and Corey Krahm to take the day's final event at 1:29.74.

The Blue Streak divers would pick up key points in the 1-meter diving with Drew Dockery placing second and Doug Hinchen taking third.
John Carroll swimmers occupied two of the top three spots in the men's 100-fly and 100-free. Corey Kehm and Pat McLaughlin touched at 56.69 and 1:00.88 in the 100-fly with Holvey and Sved posting marks of 48.81 and 49.10 in the 100-free.

The men took second, third and fourth in the 100-back with Nick Bockanic, Zach Morris and Nock competing for John Carroll. Kyle Mazurek added a third place finish in the 100-breast.

Katie Sheffield continued her steady start to the season. One week after winning the 500- and 1,000-free the junior took second in the 200-free checking in at 2:04.01.

The Blue Streaks took third and fourth in the women's 50-free with Watson and Amanda Casamatta finishing at 25.56 and 26.07 respectively.

Zagrobelny added a third place finish in the women's100-fly while Sara Needham was third in the 100-breast.

The women closed out the meet with a second place showing in the 200-free relay swum by Rachael Libertin, Casamatta, Sheffield and Watson. The quartet navigated the race in 1:45.09 narrowly missing catching Notre Dame College's relay who finished less than two seconds in front of the Blue Streaks.

John Carroll faces a busy week when it will host Mount Union on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and then an opponent to be accounted on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. as part of the Cleveland Dual Tournament.
