Box Score The rain proved to be no problem for the red-hot John Carroll men's soccer team as the Blue Streaks earned the 2-1 win over Capital on Saturday afternoon.
After putting on a scoring clinic in its last two games, Blue Streaks turned towards ball control and defense and played a complete game against the Crusaders.
"We are very happy with the result," said head coach
Hector Marinaro. "Our main goal was to get three points on the road in our first conference game of the season and we accomplished that. We'll enjoy the remainder of the weekend and start preparing for Otterbein first thing on Monday."
The electrifying
Brian Potocnik found the back of the net in his fifth straight game in the 55th minute when his shot was deflecting into the goal. The junior who entered this season with seven goals between his freshman and sophomore campaigns, already has nine strikes this season for the 8-2, 1-0 Blue Streaks.
John Carroll struck first in the 29th minute when
Michael Melfi sent up a
Trent Guy goal, Guy's third goal of the season.
Capital's Tim McCarthy cut the Blue Streak lead in half with 11 minutes remaining but John Carroll's defense clamped down in the final stretch only allowing one shot in the final 10 minutes.

John Carroll set the tone from the get go with shots from
Liam Switalski and Guy 90 seconds into the match. The Blue Streaks kept the pressure on the Crusaders with two ensuing corner kicks. It was déjà vu in the second half as Guy and
Mariusz Trzeciak fired shots on goal within the first 90 seconds.
Potocnik nearly scored a second goal in the contest when his shot in the 20th minute banged off of the post.
Capital mounted its first scoring threat in the 20th minute when Chris Mir-Salimi's shot found its way into the waiting hands of Blue Streak goalkeeper
Chris Garbinsky. Garbinsky finished with two saves, including one on a penalty kick, to pick up his third win of the season.
The men's soccer team heads to Otterbein for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
