Late heroics by Sara Ruckstuhl has put John Carroll in position to capture at least a share of the OAC regular season title
Box Score In a tightly contested OAC race the red-hot John Carroll University women's soccer team needed a win to keep pace and remain tied atop the league standings.

Sarah Ruckstuhl broke the scoreless tie with 1:19 remaining in the game netting her first collegiate goal to secure the win for the Blue Streaks. Off a corner kick, Kristen Profeta was able to slip the ball to Ruckstuhl who finished the play.

"The team played well tonight keeping the ball and creating a lot of chances," said head coach Michael Marich. "The final touch was just off a little which happens sometimes. It was great to see the team stick with the game and find a way to win in the end. Ruckstuhl's goal was huge for the confidence of the team and to keep moving forward."

The win ran the Blue Streaks' win-streak to six games, which is the longest stretch since the 2002 squad rattled off eight straight wins with seven of the coming in OAC play. John Carroll also pushed its win streak to seven against Heidelberg. John Carroll improved to 9-6-3, 6-2-0 OAC with the win.

The Blue Streaks pressured the Berg all afternoon holding nearly a 3-to-1 shot advantage but Molly Schriber had an answer for every shot finishing with 13 saves for Heidelberg.

The Blue Streaks set the tone from the start with Genny Goergen firing off the first of JCU's 23 shot attempts just 90 seconds into the game. John Carroll continued to tee-off on Schriber but the Heidelberg goalkeeper turned back eight John Carroll shots in the first half. The Blue Streaks continued the offensive onslaught to start the second half with shots by Camille Arth, Preston Mendel and Goergen all being turned away in the stanza's opening three minutes.

Junior Haley McDonald finished with four saves to post her sixth-straight shutout for the Blue Streaks.

"Every game in the OAC is a battle and it was no different again tonight," said Marich.

John Carroll, which officially clinched a spot in next week's OAC Tournament with the win, sits in a 3-way tie for first with Capital and Otterbein. Three teams - Mount Union, Ohio Northern and Wilmington - all sit 1-game back with a 5-3-0 OAC record.

The Blue Streaks close out the regular-season when they play host to Wilmington on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.
