Tommy Michals set a school-record with a 97-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Box Score On the strength of big plays in all three phases of the game, the No. 21 John Carroll Blue Streaks rolled to a 62-7 win over host Marietta College Saturday in Marietta, Ohio.

Backed with two 100-plus yard rushing performances already this season DaQuan Grobsmith came out of the gate with explosiveness registering a 50-yard rush on the second play from scrimmage. The senior added runs of 27, 18 and 15 yards in the first quarter and finished the frame with 127 yards on 10 carries and two scores. Grobsmith finished with 177 yards, 10 short of tying his career-high, and three scores.

Once Grobsmith's day was over Tommy Michals stepped right in and continued to pound away at the Pioneer defense. In the fourth quarter Michals ripped off a 97-yard touchdown rush, the Blue Streaks' longest rush in program history topping Bruce Saban's 96-yard run against Otterbein in 1991.

Michals, who entered with 231 yards rushing in his career, rumbled for 170 yards on just 13 totes against Marietta.

The Blue Streak defense was just as impressive in the first half limiting the Pioneers to 13 yards of total offense including negative 15 on the ground. John Carroll also forced four turnovers on the afternoon and were able to escape unscathed on third down holding Marietta to 2-of-16 on third down.

Choe Samba returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown in the second half and blocked a Chas Miller punt attempt. The defense harassed Marietta all first half with 1.5 sacks by Frank Pines.

Grobsmith started the scoring off plunging in from 1-yard out on the opening drive of the game and it was a field day for the offense from there, moving the ball at will. John Carroll averaged 7.7 yards per play on the afternoon.

Grobsmith would add a 4-yard score to make it 21-0 with time still remaining in the first quarter. The senior scored his third touchdown for the second straight game in the third quarter darting in from 11 yards out.

Mark Myers added three scores in the first half giving the Blue Streaks a 38-point cushion heading into the locker room. The junior found Aramis Greenwood from four yards out in the first quarter. The duo would also connect for a 3-yard score in the second quarter. Myers would later hook up with Jordan D'Orazio for 21 yards.

Junior kicker Kresimir Ivkovic booted field goals of 34 and 33 yards to close out the scoring.

Senior Alex Kline led the receiving core with four catches for 69 yards. Jimmy King (14 tackles) and Paul Okeyo (11 tackles, one forced fumble) led the defense.

John Carroll improved to 5-0, 4-0 with the win for the first 5-0 start since the 2002 season – a season in which first-year head coach Tom Arth was wrapping up his playing days at John Carroll.

In search of its third-straight shutout the defense was denied when Marietta's Axten Franzoy found the end zone from 1-yard out with 1:40 remaining.

The Blue Streaks return home to take on Muskingum in a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Oct. 19. The game is part of Community Day at John Carroll and admission is free.
