Elissa Day was one of five Blue Streaks who finished with double digit scoring nights against Muskingum
Box Score Sometimes, a much needed needed counterpunch can come from an unexpected source.
Muskingum's Tori Jarrett, who had put her team on her back throughout much of its comeback effort, knocked down her fifth three-pointer of the game and brought the host Muskies to within 51-49 at the 13:22 mark of the second half.
John Carroll, which had led by as many as 17 points in the first half, had yet to surrender the lead but was having difficulty answering the glancing blows offered up by a team desparate for its first conference win.
The answer finally came in the form of
Christie Wade's three-pointer just 18 second's after Jarrett's apparent haymaker.
Jarrett never scored again as Wade's trey launched a finishing kick that saw John Carroll outscore the host squad, 28-11, over the final 13:04 to run away with a 79-60 victory.
Muskingum led early on, but an
Elissa Day three-pointer kick started a 19-0 run over a five-minute span of the first half.
Missy Spahar's lay-up with 9:15 showing on the clock put the Streaks up 24-7.
The Muskies regained their footing and were able to whittle the JCU lead to 38-31 by halftime.
John Carroll held off the Muskies until Wade's big shot swung momentum back to the Blue & Gold side.
The victory was fueled by a balanced effort with five Blue Streaks in double figures.
Beth Switzler and
Allie Lustig each tallied 14 points, while Wade (a career high), Spahar and Day each registered 12 points into the ledger.
Lustig also managed seven assists, which gives her 250 for her career. She is just the seventh player in John Carroll history to ever reach that number.
Spahar also had 13 rebounds for her 16th career double double for John Carroll, which moved to 9-3 overall and 2-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. The 9-3 mark is the best 12-game record for a John Carroll team since the 1996-97 squad began its season 9-3.
Jarrett finished with a game-high 20 points for Muskingum, which fell to 5-7 overall and 0-5 in league competition.
