Box Scores:
Game One /
Game Two
In game one, senior
Brittany Danilov improved to 11-5 on the season and threw her twelfth complete game of the year by striking out ten Mount Union hitters and allowing just one hit through the first five innings.
Purple Raiders starting pitcher Bre Willis was credited with the loss in game one dropping to 6-8 overall, but kept the Blue Streaks in check at first by retiring the first eight Blue Streaks she faced. It was that ninth batter she faced that caused Willis problems as Blue Streaks left fielder
Morgan Robinson hit her first career home run to centerfield that broke the perfect game.
Up 1-0 entering the fourth inning, the Blue Streaks kept the offensive momentum in their corner by scoring three runs to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Capitalizing on a couple Purple Raider fielding miscues, Kenzie Griffin, Heather Hurley, and
Michelle Murphy each scored for the Blue & Gold on
Colleen Brady's two out base clearing double that blew the game wide open in the inning.
Three walks allowed by Willis in the fifth would then allow the Blue Streaks to piece together a two runrally, extending their lead to 6-0 heading into the sixth.
In the sixth, the Purple Raiders put three runs on the board highlighted, by Marissa Earl's two-run home run following a one out walk issued by Danilov to Kristen Gromes. Danilov would however shut the door on the Purple Raiders in the seventh with a one-two-three inning, giving the Blue Streaks a 6-3 game one victory.
At the onset of game two however, the tides would dramatically change.
The Purple Raiders struck Blue Streaks starting pitcher
Trisha Pike for three runs in the first inning, and then added two in the second making it 5-0 Mount Union after two.
The resilient Blue & Gold would then cut it to a three run game in the third thanks to a two out RBI double by
Heather Hurley that scored Kenzie Griffin and
Erin Riccardi after they reached on a fielder's choice and a single respectively.
In the ensuing inning, Mount Union would negate the Hurley RBI double with two runs of their own thanks to a two out RBI single by Marissa Earl that scored Kristen Gromes and Kaylah Nieschwitz, making it a 7-2 Purple Raider advantage.
John Carroll would strike for one more run in the fifth as Hurley connected with yet another RBI double cutting the Purple Raiders advantage to four, 7-3. Mount Union would add one run of insurance in the seventh, before Rachel McAninch closed out the ballgame for the Purple Raiders in the bottom half of the frame with a one, two, three inning.
