Joanne Weber had an eye on a singles victory against Oberlin College, but lost in a supertiebreaker
The John Carroll women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the 2011-12 campaign by falling to Oberlin College, 8-1, Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen were recently ranked #11 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the central region, and played like it against the Blue Streaks.
The lone point registered by JCU was earned at #1 doubles, as Seniors
Maria Ciccolini and
Cassie Simmelink prevailed by an 8-5 count.
JCU lost all six singles matches, five in straight sets. Freshman
Joanne Weber came the closest to breaking through. After falling by a 6-2 score in the opening set, Weber forced a supertiebreaker by winning the second set 7-5. Oberlin's Finley Gates would escape with the Yeowomen's final point thanks to a 10-8 victory.
John Carroll falls to 5-2 while Oberlin improves to 7-5.
